BodhiNirav

One mans journey can begin with opening his eyes; this was the case with Bodhi Nirav, a self taught visual artist from Madrid currently residing on the Spanish Mediterranean Coast-¨La Herradura¨. His surroundings are his muse adding poetic justice to his photographic images captured during strolls along the streets of his now home town. He frequently ventures towards the mountain landscape that surround him and overlook the sea-it is his backdrop for creating his art.

¨Photography has always been a great interest to me, I have not taken it  serious until now.¨

Serious indeed! In 2006 BodhiNirav purchased his first professional camera; from the first click of the shutter to capture what he saw through the viewfinder, his journey as a photographer began.

¨Photography to me is meditation, I think of the here and now  and catch it.¨

The local images of the Andalusian Province have a sensual spirituality alluding from every crevice, shadow fold and distinction of movement and stillness.
The vibrant colors define his art, they define the vulnerabilty of nature, they define the respect for all things alive; expressing detail while yearnng for growth- parallel to the here and now of BodhiNirav´s continuous journey.

THE MAN

BodhiNirav, christened Javier Jiménez-Martín on 14 May 1968, was the first born to a large Madridian family consisting of six siblings. His creativity was noticable at a young age with his engeniutiy to make things work intertwined with his diplomatic approach to co-exisit with a large family. The need to learn all things alien to him had Javier stand out from his sibling and later his peers.Persuing no post secondary education, his education was ¨life¨. Autodidactic in all his trades he has mastered what most will take years, if not a life time to learn. An alternative educational learning curve most fail to be disciplined by and succeed with has become BodhiNirav´s schooling.
When working as a freelance cameraman for Europa Press, a national media press agency in Spain, during the early 1990´s, a greater interst in the visual arts surfaced. Having his first headline video footage broadcasted on 24 August 1994 was inspiring, when studyng the photographic stills of his own footage he knew photography was what he was destined to do. He knew he was to become a photographer, to become the visual interpretor of what many overlook, converting it into an eternal moment.

Shortly after, a need to go to India was born.

THE JOURNEY
(BodhiNirav/AwarenessSilence)

In 1996 there appeared to be an uncertainty and the need to further explore all unanswered questions of who he was and who he was to become. There was a hollow sense in his being and he needed to know why. Not convinced life in the traditional sense was enough he embarked on his quest.
This emptiness leads Javier on a spiritual journey to India. For three consecutive years his annual pilgrimage for forty days to India was his path towards awareness.
Studying under contemporary masters of ancient beliefs and disciplines Javier began his transition into BodhiNirav. Surrounding himself with silence to gain awareness. He has become a man of few words fully conscious of all around him.

THE NOW

"Why worry about the ¨what ifs¨… when we have the now¨

Calling La Herradura home for over five years, BodhiNirav is at peace and inspired. Living in a small seaside community of approximately three thousand people he finds solace to continue his work as an artist.  Developing a reputation for realism merged with a fantastical spirituality in his photography he has gained several well respected collectors both in the United States and abroad.
