CONJURO DE LA QUEIMADA

Incantation of the queimada

Búhos, lechuzas, sapos y brujas.

Owls, nightjars, toads and witches.

Demonios maléficos y diablos, espíritus de las nevadas vegas.

Malevolent demons and devils, spirits of the snowy plateaux.

Cuervos, salamandras y meigas, hechizos de las curanderas.

Ravens, salamanders and beldams, spells of the wise-women.

Podridas cañas agujereadas, hogar de gusanos y de alimañas.

Rotten reeds riddled with holes, home to maggots and vermin.

Fuego de las almas en pena, mal de ojo, negros hechizos, olor de los muertos, truenos y rayos.

Fire of souls in torment, evil-eye, black deeds, odour of the dead, thunder and lightning.

Ladrido del perro, anuncio de la muerte; hocico del sátiro y pata del conejo.

Howling of dogs, the harbinger of death; satyr’s snout and rabbit’s paw.

Pecadora lengua de la mala mujer casada con un hombre viejo.

Sinful tongue of loose women wed to aged men.

Infierno de Satán y Belcebú, fuego de los cadáveres en llamas, cuerpos mutilados de los indecentes, pedos de los infernales culos, mugido de la mar embravecida.

Hell of Satan and Beelzebub, fire of the blazing cadavers, mutilated corpses of  the shameless, farts from the infernal backsides, roar of the wild sea.

Vientre inútil de la mujer soltera, maullar de los gatos en celo, pelo malo y sucio de la cabra mal parida.

Fruitless womb of the unwed woman, yowling of cats on heat, vile, hideous hair of the malformed goat.

Con este cazo levantaré las llamas de este fuego que se asemeja al del infierno, y huirán las brujas a caballo de sus escobas, yéndose a bañar a la playa de las arenas gordas.

With this cauldron I will fan the flames of the fire which resembles that of Hell; and the witches astride their broomsticks will flee, flying to their coven on the coarse-sanded beach.

¡Oíd, oíd! los rugidos que dan las que no pueden dejar de quemarse en el aguardiente quedando así purificadas.

Hark!  Hark to the howls of pain from those witches who cannot escape being consumed in the liquor, this liquor which leaves them purified.

Y cuando este brebaje baje por nuestras gargantas, quedaremos libres de los males de nuestra alma y de todo embrujamiento.

And, when this potion slips down our throats, we will be rendered free of any darkness of the soul and of all bewitchment.

Fuerzas del aire, tierra, mar y fuego, a vosotros hago esta llamada: si es verdad que tenéis más poder que la humana gente, aquí y ahora, haced que los espíritus de los amigos que están fuera, participen con nosotros de esta queimada.

Oh Elements of Air, Earth, Water, Fire, to you I utter this cry: if it be true that you possess more power than we, enable here and now the spirits of friends not present to partake with us of this queimada.
